I often walk in the scene to "feel" where my models should stand. :-)
More testing at the studio – we did this right after the Babies in Uggs…six kids, winter and winter party fashions.
It seemed fitting that our first shoot at the loft studio would be with babies. After all - they are new life, new energy, new hope - and for the most part, at six-months are deliciously adorable, happy and bubbly... even when they wail. We did a test with baby Ugg boots, most importantly for me to see how the natural light in the studio works for us. The studio faces west, so I get sunlight most of the day. It's beautiful pretty light, but for photography, light control becomes very necessary. I'm very pleased with how we managed that, and I cannot wait to show the results!Art direction: Femi Corazon Wardrobe and Props: Elwira Miezal. Behind the scenes shots courtesy of Catherine Tang. Thanks Catherine!
I've been looking for some time for a daylight studio in Los Angeles. This loft space with HUGE windows came up in DTLA and it's oh-so perfect, I could just dance a jig! (Actually, I kind of did) Oh, I'm so happy to have a permanent home for studio shoots. Although we shoot on location a lot, I cannot wait to settle in and set up some work in this happy bright space!
Summer... I bid you adieu and look forward to hot chocolate evenings...
A little teepee, a little sand, a little girl....and a little behind the scenes.
another piece from the Snyder's of Hanover shoot.
Shenanigans afoot at an adventure shoot with kids in studio.
Been shooting more food lately... a couple shots from last month's shoot.Food styling by Helen Shardray.
Shot the summer campaign for Snyders of Hanover and they are now in the middle of their summer sweepstakes. Here are a few from the series. If you have seen any of the behind the scenes photos, you know we actually shot these in a studio in Los Angeles....
Awesome background illustration for this series was done by the extremely talented Larry Jones and I'm honored to have collaborated with him on this.

Love it when I am able to get some behind the scenes shots while I work. These are screen caps from a video that is currently being produced, but if you can get past the grainy quality, take a peek behind the scenes of a spec fashion/lifestyle shoot I did for Little Warriors kids clothing. Joia was one of my models and just an awesome kid... we had a great time.
Her: "No, I don't wanna take a picture."Me: "OK, that's fine. I want to take a picture. So why don't you take a picture of ME?"
I depend heavily on the build quality of my gear. It doesn't get babied or coddled...it gets used... and used hard. 'Cos nothing is more scary than handing off your precious camera to a rambunctious three-year-old.... :-) but hey, it breaks the ice and we can get the job DONE. (And I carry a backup camera just in case....)
Thank you, Nikon for magnesium alloy bodies!
I recently watched an awesome little documentary called "Happy", where some behavioral scientists studied our inclination for happiness. Apparently, our ability to feel happy is due to 50% genetics, 10% circumstance and 40% INTENTIONAL ACTIVITY. I'm seriously diggin' the idea that you can in fact intentionally create happiness. Here's to the 40%, people! Happy is available on Netflix ... I totally recommend it. While we're at it... check out this little blog post on resolutions for a happier 2013.
A thing that you see in my pictures is that I was not afraid to fall in love with these people.
We wish you all the best this holiday season. We are going to spend this last week of 2012 indulging in egg nog, too much cake, and
a little bit a lot of shut-eye.
Behind the scenes - shooting summer fashions for designer Alejandra Kearl. We started off with a large silver reflector for bounce and later switched the key to an Einstein in a 46" Softlighter II. Awesome light. I think I need more LOVE t-shirts.
We scored Hershey a Santa Hat.Don't let the iPhone snapshot fool you. It lasted for about two seconds....
We wrapped FIFTEEN setups an hour early! Here we are - a super-long-day so we were tired but happy to be done....Love my crew!!
